Message from our CEO

The Lower Brule Housing Authority was established by the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in 1962 as a Housing Authority to serve the people of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. The purpose of the establishment was to remedy unsafe and unsanitary housing conditions that are injurious to the public health and safety. To Alleviate the acute shortage of decent, safe and sanitary dwellings for persons of low income. To further provide employment opportunities through construction, rehabilitation, improvement, alterations or repair and operation of low income dwelling units.

The affairs of the Lower Brule Housing Authority is governed by a Board of Commissioners composed of five persons and one elderly liaison appointed by the Lower Brule Sioux Tribal Council, with staggered terms consisting of 2-four year terms, 1-three year term, 1 - two year term, and 1 -one year term. A Maintenance Facility that houses the maintenance program offices, materials, supplies and equipment.
