The Lower Brule Sparky Small Jumper/Flash White Light Memorial. Maintenance Facility is located in a separate building behind the main office on the Housing Authority Complex.
Work Order Process: Work orders can be called in, or completed on site. The staff will review the work order to determine if it is wear and tear, tenant abuse, high priority, emergency, or routine. Once work orders are placed in their priority status, they are assigned out to the maintenance men. After the work order is completed they are signed off on by the tenant or a household member over the age of 16 and the maintenance worker.
Tenant Abuse Items; will require payment in full, or payment arrangements prior to work being completed. Examples of Tenant abuse; holes in walls, broken windows, kicked in doors, busted door frames, trim being pulled off around the door and the walls, cabinet doors (cabinet doors do not fall off by themselves – they will come off if you let your child hang on them, climb on them and otherwise damage them, just like door knobs do not fall off by themselves, unless they are really old…but they will break if your child hangs on the door knob and swings). Just remember, you are responsible for maintaining your home and if tenant abuse occurs, it is best to make arrangements to pay to have the item repaired instead of leaving it, because if you reach a certain level of damage in your home, you will be evicted. See policies and procedures on appropriate tab.
Infestations; the Maintenance Department has supplies on hand for the treatment of infestations, roach spray, roach powers, mice traps, sticky traps, and bed bug sprays. The best way to avoid infestations is to keep your homes clean. Sweep and mop after every meal, put your food away in tightly sealed containers, keep your house clean, wipe your counters and stoves down. Develop a schedule for your household and follow it. Develop a chore list for the children. Doing chores helps children learn responsibility, and it helps the parents out as well. There are age appropriate chores that a child can do, such as picking up toys and placing them back in their toy bin for the little ones, sweeping and mopping for the older ones, doing the dishes after every meal, cleaning your bathroom daily, keeping your home clean helps you to avoid infestations.
Another cause of infestations is bringing items into your home from an infested house. Be careful who you buy from when purchasing rummage items. If you know a neighbor, relative or friend has an infestation, you don’t want your children spending the night and getting their bags and clothes infested so bugs can travel back to your home and infest you, just like head lice, you have to take preventive actions to ensure that your family and home is protected.
If you do have an infestation, you need to take the appropriate steps to rid your home of the infestation, and keeping your home clean and putting down treatments will help in that process. It’s a slow road if you don’t keep at it daily. Keeping your homes clean is key. You got to keep up on dirty laundry, bugs love hiding in dirty clothes, they love the trash, they love warm damp locations, and they love the food you and your children leave out for them to eat. Important to clean daily.
HELPFUL TIPS
Disposal of Grease and Cooking Oil
RULE of thumb
When it comes to grease and oil disposal is don’t pour it down a drain. Toilets, sinks, and floor drains are all off-limits as gluey oils and animal fats will destroy your plumbing. Instead, turn to your garbage can. Here are a few other helpful hints.
Pour it into a metal coffee can or a metal bowl
Place a sheet of aluminum foil in your sink, where it goes into your sink basket push down into your sink basket and pour your grease in. When it solidifies toss it in the garbage.
Preventative Measures
Once a month you can pour ¼ cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar down your drain, once the fizzling stops flush it with hot water. It is an effective way to removing grease from your drains. It will also help take care of smaller clogs.
